Method

Decisions, sourced — and silence where the number is missing.

This guide is written as decisions rather than overviews. Claims are either traced to a named official source or stated plainly as editorial judgment. Where no verified figure exists, this guide publishes nothing rather than something plausible.

Rules

  • Every factual claim traces to a named source or is stated as editorial judgment.
  • An omitted claim always beats an invented one.
  • Name the crowding and the trade-offs, including where the honest answer is "do not stay there".
  • Paid links are marked sponsored and disclosed wherever they appear, and never shape the verdict.
Seasons

Patterns, never forecasts.

Seasonal advice on this site — the tropics' roughly November-to-May stinger season, Queenstown's June-to-September ski season — describes stable patterns, not a promise about your dates.

What a season claim means here

It means the pattern is well-established enough to plan around at the month level: when the stinger enclosures operate, when the ski fields run, when the wet season loads the tropics. It never means a specific week will be dry or the sea will be safe on a given day.

What to check live

Beach flags and sea conditions on the day, cyclone and storm advisories, reef and ski operations, and anything with a date — events, closures, entry rules. Those belong to the official sources linked from every guide.

Beach safety is non-negotiable

Follow beach closures, warning signs, lifeguards, and the official advice for the day. In the tropical north, use patrolled beaches and stinger-resistant enclosures where provided, swim only in designated safe areas, and treat alpine roads in winter with real caution. No base choice removes those responsibilities.

Contaminated figures

Numbers we refuse to repeat.

Some widely circulated tourism statistics are not statistics — they are artefacts that acquired authority by repetition. Our rule is simple: no published counting method, no citation.

Visitor totals without a method

Annual visitor counts for destinations like Sydney or the reef circulate in wildly different versions with no transparent methodology. This guide plans around observable operating signals — crowd timing, transport patterns, seasonal rhythms — instead of repeating a number nobody can trace.

"Average price" claims

Average nightly rates shift with season, exchange rates, and mix, and most quoted averages have no stated basis. We describe price relationships (which area generally runs above which) and leave live prices to the live comparison links, which show today's answer.

Corrections travel

When we find a claim of ours that fails this standard, we correct the page and note the correction rather than silently editing. Report candidates through the support page with the strongest source you have.

How the affiliate links work

Money never edits the verdicts: the decision content on each page is finished before any commercial link is attached, every sponsored link is labelled and disclosed beside the buttons, and the links remain ordinary static anchors that work without hotel-partner JavaScript. Limited cookie-free outbound measurement is documented in the privacy notice and is disabled by Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track. Comparison pages link both sides of the decision symmetrically, so the commercial layer cannot tilt the answer.
